Maggie's stink

Maggie's new thing is to try to put her stink on me. She's notorious for putting her stink on everything else, rubbing her face on the coffee table, the floor, the bed, you name it, but now she's putting her stink on me! I was standing there this morning, minding my own business, waiting for Dad to bend down and pet me when Maggie just came up and started rubbing her face across my face and side. Then she body-checked me for just that extra bit of stink. I need to get her to understand that I have my own stink, and I'm pretty happy with it, and even if it's a sign of affection I think she needs to find another way to express herself because I don't want Maggie stink on me. Am I over-reacting here?

Thursday Thirteen

Mom is feeling all congested and miserable and her nose is red from exploding so much. So for our first Thursday Thirteen here are the thirteen things that are different since Mom's feeling bad.
1. If she felt better she'd be picking us all up a few times a day. Mom tries to pick each of us up a few times each day, but yesterday she felt so bad she didn't pick us up until about 9:00 p.m.
2. If Mom felt better we'd be visiting more of our friends' blogs and making comments (we need Mom's thumbs for help).
3. Mom would be brushing our faces with the brush.
4. We get to snuggle with Mom more because she's in bed resting.
5. Right now we're getting more garage time because she doesn't have the energy to wrangle all of us back in from the garage.
6. We're catching up on episodes of Martha, Mythbusters and Dirty Jobs.
7. Mom didn't leave yesterday to go grocery shopping like she normally does on Wednesdays, so that's an extra two hours of Mom!
8. More tissues around the house to hunt. (As a kitten, I emptied an entire box of tissues once, bringing them one mouthful at a time to Mom and Dad.)
9. When Huggy Bear wanted love from Mom she tried really hard to give him pets, but then her nose would explode and scare him off. He'd slowly venture back, just in time for another nose explosion.
10. The weather is cooling down again, but no strolls for Maggie yet.
11. We don't get to hang out with Mom at lunch when she plays games online with Dad at lunch because she needs to nap instead. That means we don't get to IM Dad.
12. We get to nurse Mom back to health.
13. We know that once Mom is better she'll give us all extra attention to make up for the past few days, so better days are on the horizon!

Tabby Tuesday

Here is a great picture of our dad giving Maggie all kinds of love. Maggie loves to be held like a little baby and given head scratches. Maggie is such a loving little kitten. She is totally hugging dad. Please note her magical creamsicle foot. You can really see why my mom loves that little paw.

In this picture it looks like dad is trying to eat Maggie, but he's just giving her a kiss while giving head and chin scratches. Dad is a really good multi-tasker.

Happy Birthday Pixie!!

From all of us, we want to wish Ms. Pixie a super happy birthday. We are really hoping her mommy makes her a very special bananer cake!! Every kitty head over to Pixie's sister Daisy the Curly Cat's blog and wish Pixie "happy birthday!"

Aunt Cathy sent us this link ... maybe Mom and Dad can go to the mall in the sky and get us one.

Jasper The Cat

Every now and then I check out my stats and see how people come to my blog. I saw someone had been searching for "Jasper the Cat" (I'm the first hit) and that there is a band called Jasper The Cat. It's not something I'd listen to over and over again. I prefer music with bird sounds, personally. But if they hit it big, I wonder if I should seek royalties?

Seven Meme

Jimmy Joe tagged us with the Seven Things Meme. The rules:
1. Link to your tagger and post these rules
2. Write some facts about yourself: some random, some weird, some just plain fun.
3. Tag 7 people at the end of your post and list their names (linking to them)
4. Let those 7 people know they’ve been tagged by leaving a comment at their blogs.

Thanks, first, to Jimmy Joe for tagging me (and for letting me know in a comment so I didn't miss the tag). I'll share the seven things between me and Josie, Huggy Bear and Maggie so we're all covered.
1) I have freckled on my lips and nose, little black spots, which originally concerned Mom and Dad until they learned that these spots are normal on orange cats.
2) Josie likes to sleep under the covers, especially against Mom's leg, and if Mom is up late reading cat blogs or playing Diner Dash Josie will come in and meow and fuss at her for not being in bed.
3) Huggy Bear is a big boy cat, but he has a tiny little cry. If he doesn't know where anyone is, he will cry until his name is called, then he comes running with his loud purr on.
4) Maggie has learned all her behavior from the rest of us ... she sleeps in the sink like me, she is a lover like Josie, and she plays ball and hunts like Huggy Bear.
5) Josie, Huggy Bear and Maggie all have the same Mom (Josie and Huggy Bear are from the same litter). I was born in a no-kill shelter and after being adopted, a friend of a friend adopted my mom without even knowing my Mom and Dad -- small world.
6) We all love high places. Huggy Bear and I will hang out at the top of the stairs perched looking down them. Maggie likes to climb to the highest box possible when in the garage.
7) We are so cute that Mom and Dad have way way too many pictures of us and need a new computer just to hold them all (OK, maybe they just need a new computer because their's is old). (If they take this many pictures of us I wonder what'll happen when they have kids? Still take lots of pictures of us, and maybe buy a second camera for the kid, I would have to say.)

Now, I know I'm supposed to tag seven more cats, but to be honest, I lose track of who's been tagged and not, so not to sound like a spoiler-sport, but I tag you, you, you, you, you, you and you (and "you" know who you are because you haven't been tagged yet...)

Again, thanks Jimmy Joe for tagging us ...

A very scary moment

The weather has been so nice here that we've been enjoying some open window time. Tonight Mom had opened the front windows in the dining room that are low to the ground. Mom and Dad were eating dinner while watching some TV when suddenly there was this crashing sound. They rushed in to see the screen pulled out, bent toward the outside, and with Maggie near the windowsill. It was dark outside and Mom and Dad couldn't see if any of us had jumped out, but a quick headcount revealed all but Josie. Mom went outside to look and Dad got a flashlight. Mom found a cat (Zoe, the neighbor's cat) and Dad found Josie inside (thankfully). Apparently Zoe saw Maggie and pulled the screen out trying to visit. This screen wasn't in the best shape, Dad suspects, which is why it could be pulled out, but now Mom and Dad are on high alert with the open windows. And with that screen messed up that means another closed window...

Tuxie Tuesday

Josie is the huntress of the family. The other day, Mom brought home a new orange rattle mouse from Target and she gave it specifically to Josie. Since then, Josie has been carrying her mouse around the house -- her prized possession. She even growled a deep, Huggy Bear-type growl when we got too close to her with her mouse. I stayed away, and eventually Huggy Bear and Maggie learned to keep back too, and accepted the fact that this mouse was hers.

This is an early picture when Josie first got the mouse -- you can tell because it still has feathers on its tail. Those didn't last five minutes!

Mancat Monday

My dad and I (and my mom) have a manly Saturday tradition, we watch Tennessee football. My dad has called me "Big Orange Cat" for obvious reasons, but mainly because of The University of Tennessee. You see, my dad and mom both graduated from there and are huge UT fans. I have been a Vols fan since I was 4 months old (that was my first football season). My favorite place to watch the game is sitting on the couch with my dad. Or if the game is getting really good I hop up on the coffee table for a better view of the TV.

They said if I had been gray, my name would have been "Smokey." Personally I can't believe they would even think about naming me after a drooler. (But for a drooler, he's pretty cute.)

--Now I know there lots of people out there ready to give us a hard time about Saturday's game against Florida, don't worry about saying a word. We've heard everything. This post is about me and my dad doing manly mancat things together. We take our wins with our losses and move on. Now by no means are we happy about the loss to Florida. Did dad say a few bad words? Yes. Did mom throw a catalog across the room during the game? Yes - But as I said before we move on, and on Sunday we were very happy about Peyton Manning and the Colts win over the Titans.

Floofy Friday

Here is Huggy Bear in his best Floofy Friday Full Monty pose. He was having a great time Full Monty-ing the other night while Mom was working on her recipe blog. Although she doesn't make cat food, we still like to supervise her time in the kitchen.

Huggy Bear has what Mom describes as a yummy tummy, and a very floofy one, too. He has what must be a "purr button" on his tummy because when Mom or Dad pets his tummy he just starts purring so loud that it could wake you up.

PS - Everyone needs to go over and visit Oscar and meet his new baby bean!

Surfer rescues dog from waves

This is a nice story... A dog was swept from a pier into Lake Michigan by a large wave and a surfer saved the dog just as the dog was about to give up.

Tabby Toesies Tuesday

My mom just loves Maggie's toesies! To tell you the whole truth, she loves all of our toesies, but Maggie has one very unique paw that I think my mom really favors. It's her creamsicle paw. It's so crazy -- she has three regular tabby cat paws and one ginger paw! Mom has called it her creamsicle paw since she was a tiny kitten. I guess she really is my sister if she's part ginger.

Thanks Meep!

We are so honored and humbled to be nominated by Meep for this award. It really means a lot to us over here. We really try to focus on the good things in life. Life is good for us McKitten-Cats and we can only hope to spread that love around. Thanks again Meep!

We would like to nominate all of the kitties at catblogosphere because each and every one of you have such a special place in our hearts, but my mom said we needed to pick three. So here they are....We would like to nominate William, Finny and Buddy, and Scooby, Shaggy and Scout. We picked William because he is one of the first blogs we went to and he has always been so welcoming and nice to us. Finny and Buddy because their blog makes us laugh and their mommy does very nice things for people (like her long, long bike ride for MS). And SSS and their mom - They always have the nicest things to say and are very encouraging like when my mom and dad took in Maggie and her litter. They always had good advise and encouraging words. Thanks every kitten for all the nice you put out there.

Big helpers

Mom and Dad labored on Labor Day, painting the bonus room over the garage. Maggie helped pick out the colors. Mom knows what fabric she wants the curtains made from, so we needed to match up the colors. Maggie has a good eye for that (really, no pun intended).

Maggie is very dedicated to helping match the colors. She really likes the fabric, and the strings that come off of it.

Huggy Bear helped during the painting by holding the drop cloth in place. He'd also check to see if the paint was dry yet by brushing his tail against the wall. Luckily, it was usually dry.

It's not our fault

It was bound to happen at some point ... it's not really our fault. You see, Mom and Dad were working out in the front yard ... Dad pushing the thing that eats the grass and Mom pulling the weeds that seem to grow when nothing else will. Dad had taken a load of clippings to the compost pile across the street in the woods and was heading back with the Gorilla Cart (one of Mom and Dad's favorite things ever!) and Mom thought she heard a "tinkle, tinkle, tinkle" ... and then Mom looks up and said "Oh, NO!" Dad came running to see that the front door hadn't latched correctly, and the door had breezed open a crack. It was enough that we were able to brave a second outside. Well, not "we" because I was sitting on the inside steps saying, "Guys, I don't think that's a great idea," but Huggy Bear and Josie and Maggie all ventured out onto the front porch. As soon as Mom yelled Maggie darted straight in, then Josie and Huggy Bear. Now, every now and then, Maggie will sit by the front door like she wants out or something. She doesn't realize there are mean dogs and fast cars and no food bowls outside.

I think Maggie has been pacified with a lot of garage time, though. Last night Dad gave us tons of garage time because Mom and Dad are painting the bonus room over the garage (we helped pick the colors and supervised a lot -- pics to come later), but when Maggie was in the garage she cornered a frog! Dad came in to see the frog hopping and hopping as Maggie watched and swatted playfully at it. Dad wrangled all of us out of the garage and let the frog escape, but Maggie and Josie have been patrolling ever since, ever vigilant for intruders!

To top things off ... Tuesday morning Maggie made another attempt at slipping out, with Huggy close behind. The termite inspector stopped her at the door, but I think she wanted to go out and hunt for that frog again.

Kitten fever

Have you been reading about Dinah and the Mites? Their adventures are too cute. Between them and the Lucy and the "littles" over at Grr, Midnight and Cocoa, I think Mom is getting kitten fever. Let's hope she eats her chicken noodle soup and gets over this fever soon ... yikes!
