Kittens go to camp

Mom and dad took the two foster kittens to "camp" for adoption yesterday. They are very hopeful that at least one will find a good home. The boys have their purrs turned on real loud, and they have been cleaning mom and dad when they hold them, so hopefully this will win someone over. They got a very large cage, so they have room to roam and play.

Josie slept on dad's pillow all night, and purred when he woke up. She even cleaned his nose and cheek and ear lobe. (I think she really just wanted to eat his ear.)

I'm starting to feel better. I haven't gotten the hairball up, but I'm moving around better and am more active.

Snuggling with mom

Josie tucked herself in the crook of mom's elbow for a nice cuddly nap. Mom really likes when Josie snuggles up with her. Posted by Hello

Book perch

Bullet spends some time with the books in the office. Posted by Hello

Are you their father?

Could this be the kittens' dad? His coloring very much resembles Josie, and he plays in the woods behind the apartments. Posted by Hello

Looking for deals

Josie checks out some of the newspaper ads. Posted by Hello

Cozy nap spot

Josie tucked herself into the comforter on the couch for a little nap while mom read the Thanksgiving newspaper ads. She almost got sat on yesterday, so she needs to be careful. Posted by Hello

My napping spot

I took a little Thanksgiving afternoon nap beside the VCR while mom and dad watched the Colts game. This is a great place to nap and I know mom and dad like being t watch TV and see me at the same time. Posted by Hello

Sleeping with dad

Josie is a cuddling cat. I'm not really. I'll let you love on me, but in a more traditional cat fashion, I keep it on my terms. I want to be near you. Like if mom is laying on the couch, I won't be in the crook of her knees. I'll probably be either on the floor at the foot of the couch, or curled up on the other couch. Josie, on the other hand, is another story. She prefers to lay with mom or dad when they are in bed. She likes dad's pillow (see previous pictures). This morning, she was laying on dad's pillow, curving her body against his head and shoulder.

Mini exam

Dad broke out the stethoscope today and listed to me. He's not a vet, but from his understanding of anatomy, he decided my heart soounds were good, my lungs were clear and that I did have bowel sounds (borborygmi -- one of dad's favorite diagnosis words). Now if I could just get this hairball up (or down ... at this point I don't care which way).

On dad's pillow

Josie likes to settle into the middle of dad's cervical pillow. The little divot is the perfect size for her. Posted by Hello

Josie in my napping spot

Josie really finds all the good nap spots. She joined me on the garmet bag in the closet. This is really my space, but I do share sometimes. Don't mind all the cat hair on mom's pants. She'll get that with the lint brush later. Posted by Hello

A nice day for a catnap

Josie and I envoyed a nice catnap with the windows open this afternoon. I guess it's snowing back in Iowa, but nice here in South Carolina. You can't beat a good nap on the back of the couch, and Josie is learning that pretty fast. Posted by Hello

Hairball battle

Hairball -- it sounds like some kind of reality show/extreme sport crossover you'd find on Spike TV. Unfortunately, it's nothing that fun or forgetable. Instead, it's my current predicament. At two-and-a-half, I haven't had but two hairballs, and that was this past summer. This latest hairball fiasco is really taking its toll. Mom and dad are worrying about me, I keep trying to hack it up, but can't, and mom and dad are trying all kinds of remedies. They have a gel that they have tricked me to eat a few times, and they picked up some Purina hairball treats, but I've never been a real treat fan, so I don't eat them much. Hopefully this'll all be over soon and I can get back to my good old self.

Slippery kittens

Dad was letting Josie into the office to play with the kittens. As he was putting her in, both boys slipped out, then split up and headed opposite directions. Before he could get everyone wrangled, he must have scooped up the kittens and replaced them in the office three or four times. It's like trying to catch water with your bare hands.

Mom picked up some cat grass for me, but she couldn't find any that was already grown, so I have to wait a week for it to be grown and help my stomach. She also picked up some hairball gel and dad tricked me to eat some off his finger. I almost spit up the hairball right away ... ugh! Mom and dad also treated me with a little pre-Thanksgiving turkey. Now that's what I'm talking about!

Wrestling with my tail

I try to be very patient with Josie. I was trying to sleep on the futon while Josie tried to get my tail. Posted by Hello

Boys are back

No luck this weekend with finding homes for the two boys. Frisky and Bullet are back in the bathroom kicking up litter and playing with Josie under the door.

Feeling timid

I'm not feeling so hot right now. Mom and dad are a little concerned. I was showing signs of wanting to spit up a hairball last night, but never did. Mom was afraid I had gotten a piece of ribbon (I like to eat it) and was possibly choking on it. Dad has kept Josie occupied so I can eat and drink in piece. She's my buddy, but sometimes it bothers me when she jingles in and invades my space when I want to eat. She has her own Kitten Chow, but insists on eating my Indoor Cat Formula. Doesn't she know that she needs the Kitten Chow to grow big like me?

Leaf peeping

What's going on out there? The three kittens really like watching the leaves blow. Posted by Hello

This has been a busy week and I haven't had much of a chance to blog. I got some good quality time with mom last night. She's a bit of a night owl, and little Josie was sleeping on half of dad's pillow, so I got to sit in the wrapping paper box while mom wrapped presents. It's one of my favorite things to do.

Dad left a roll of toilet paper out and the boys got ahold of it and shredded it. It looked like New York on New Year's Eve! He cleaned it up before I could get a picture, but imagine tiny pieces of TP covering an entire bathroom floor. They even managed to push some out from under the door.

I'm enjoying a little window time right now. It's a nice day today so I am teaching Josie the simple pleasure of window-sitting.

...and then there were two.

Curly was adopted this weekend! It turns out the lady who told us Curly was a boy now seems to think Curly is a girl. Curly's new name will be Madison and will have a little playmate named Elmo.

Mom and dad had mixed feelings, more happy than sad, but they were fond of Curly and are glad that Curly is now in a good, permanent home.

There was still interest in Frisky, the gray striped boy. He is very playful and energetic, characteristics which may have torpedoed him the first week. But he is a guy's cat, and mom and dad are optimistic that the boys will find homes soon. They are on the Pet's Inc. website (incorrectly listed as the Rocky Mountain kittens ... should be Smokey Mountian). Keep your fingers crossed for these little guys.

Poor puppy

When mom and dad took the boys and Josie to get de-flea'd, there was a litter of puppies who had basically been dropped at the shelter. There were eight of them, 10 days old, lab and golden mix. These puppies were entirely flea infested. We thought the babies were bad, but they were nothing compared to these puppies. Josie was bleeding from the fleas getting her, and it turns out that the fleas got two of the puppies even worse than that. Two have died from the fleas, and the others are on special medication. That's why it's so important to take good care of your animals.

Cat in the box

When we moved into our new apartment last February, there were all sorts of places for me to explore. I don't care what they say, I fit in this box! Posted by Hello

Getting ribbon

One of my favorite pasttimes is eating ribbon. This was particularly good fun when we had some helium-filled balloons dangling ribbons for me to get. Posted by Hello

Adjusting cat

Ready for my chiropractic adjustment. Sometimes I get a little bit of a sniffle when I sleep and dad will adjust my cervicals and it clears right up. Yes, chiropractic works for cats, too. Posted by Hello

Josie and the jack

Small kitten or big jack? A little of both, I think. Posted by Hello

This is me as a kitten. Sorry about the resolution, this picture was taken with a webcam before the digital camera. See, I was small once, too. Posted by Hello
