Huggy Bear's moth

Huggy Bear caught a moth the other day. He had been playing in the garage, and as Dad called him in a moth came in with him. The moth made the mistake of flying in too low and HB pounced right away, grabbing the moth in his paws, then his mouth, then lead Maggie and Josie through the house with the moth in his mouth like he was on parade.

Locked in, locked out

Mom went to run some errands and have lunch with Dad (bad restaurant choice), and while she was away she was very thoughtful and left some upstairs windows open for us. It was all good until a breeze caught Mom and Dad's bedroom door and shut it, locking Huggy Bear in the room and locking the rest of us out. Fortunately for HB, he was locked in with the food, and he likes food. Unfortunately, the litter box was on the wrong side of the door and HB was forced to hold it until Mom got home (no accidents!). To top things off, Mom received a package of plants she'd ordered so she's casually sitting on the front porch when she got home, looking at her plants, while Huggy called to her from the window. Mom, unaware of the situation, called up, "I'll be right in Huggy, it's OK." She felt so bad when she saw he was trapped. But she was also very proud of us for not digging at the carper in an effort to escape. (BTW, there's a doorstop up there now.)

Josie, house defender

The other night, Mom and Dad had just finished working hard in the yard when some neighbors came by to see all they had done. One neighbor brought a Dakota with her. We'd never seen a Dakota before, especially in our yard, but apparently it is a dog that doesn't know its place. (You see, when we were in our apartment the occasional dog would walk by, but keep walking, as it should be.) But Dakota was hanging out on our deck, and we were not happy about it. Our kitchen window (about 10 feet from the deck) was open, and Huggy Bear and I were sitting in the window. Huggy Bear was giving his very low and deep "back off" growl. But it was Josie who really took offense. She was prowling from window to window (closed), along the back of the couch which is right by the deck. Every now and then she would rise up and lunge at the window or back door while silly Dakota just looked dumbly inside. Dakota's mom said he has a cat-friend at home and he just wanted to play with us, but what she didn't get is that WE didn't want to play with him. Josie wanted to rip him to shreds. Eventually they went home and we all calmed back down, but Josie made it clear who the defender of the home is. She may be sweet and a lover, but she's a woman too, and you know better than to cross her.

Tummy Tuesday

Happy Tummy Tuesday!! Sorry I've been gone all week. As mom says "we've been sooo stinkin' busy with the yard, we haven't had a chance to blog." Mom took this picture during my nap after I ate my birthday cake. I have super big tummy after that "5" cake. (This could also be Widebody Wednesday and Floofy Friday picture!)

Mom's recipes

Mom has a new blog with recipes that she's been working on for a little while now. It looks good, as people food goes, but I doubt she'll put my stinky goodness cake on her recipe blog...

Visit Kitchen Sherpa today and eat better tonight!

Have my cake, and eat it, too

I got my "5" stinky goodness birthday cake, just like I asked! After dinner, Mom and Dad brought all of us in for the cake and we had a little party.

I made a wish, and got the first bite of the cake.

Then Mom and Dad cut the cake into pieces for all of us.

Josie thought it tasted better off of my birthday boy plate, so I shared with her like a good big brother should. Overall, it was a perfect fifth birthday.

Happy Birthday to ME!

Today is my fifth birthday! Many people associate today with tax day, but for Mom and Dad they always associate it with my birthday (not my gotcha day, that's later... but since I was born in a shelter, they have a very good idea of my actual b-day).

This is me as a tee-tiny kitten. I know the resolution is really low, this was pre-digital camera and was taken with (ugh) a webcam instead. Mom and Dad actually have film prints of me that should be scanned in, but that's a project for a new, faster computer.

Mom and Dad worked real hard in the front yard Friday afternoon and all day Saturday so that they could spend the day with me. And that's the best birthday present of all. (But I'm still expecting a cake made of stinky goodness.)

Floofy Friday

I decided that today would be Josie's Floofy Friday. She is so floofy!

Tiny Tummy Tuesday

This is tiny tummy Tuesday! Here is a picture of Maggie when she was a tiny baby. She and Huggy Bear were instant friends. (Even though it looks like Huggy is sizing her up for dinner-- look at his tongue.) Mom and Dad just fell in love with that polka dotted tummy. She's so cute, but don't tell her I said that.

Ear bites

Someone bit Maggie on the ear. She had a little scabby spot that Dad washed off and cleaned up and Mom monitored to make sure it stayed OK. It didn't seem to bother Maggie, and she's all OK now. Mom and Dad asked us what happened, since it happened during the night, but we had our story straight (although implausible) that Maggie bit her own ear. And we'll leave it at that...

Happy news

I just saw that Oscar's sister Molly returned after nine days missing! I get so nervous sometimes for our outside kitties out there. We stay in, but I know Mom and Dad's biggest fear is that one of us slip out and get hurt or lost. Mom's first cat was an inside/outside cat, but they lived in a quiet neighborhood and everyone knew everyone and Fluffy ruled the land like a prince. But you just don't know about people anymore, so we stay in. Dad says there's an outside cat who lives down the street and plays in the sewer drain. That sounds like an adventure, but possibly a little too dirty and stinky for me.

5 Reasons tag

The Cats Stephens tagged us about the 5 Reason We Blog...
1. I like to tell stories and share adventures.
2. So Dad can see our pictures when he's at work.
3. Because I get to meet so many cool cats.
4. It's my small step toward world peace...
5. ...and toward world domination.

If you read this, consider yourself tagged (I'm usually a little behind on the tagging and don't want to double-tag).
