Mom's helper

We like to pretend that this doesn't happen. Sometimes you just have to turn a blind eye to misbehavior.

Leo
This is Leo, a miniature Schnauzer. When Mom has shows with her theatre Leo hangs out with her some during the construction phase. He belongs to the guy who runs the space that Mom's theatre is renting right now. Leo is a funny dog, and very sweet, so we allow it.

Happy Birthday to ME!

Today is my 13th birthday! 13! Wow! Where has the time gone? I know a lot of people get stressed today because it is the deadline for filing your taxes, but don't think of it as Tax Day, think of it as Jasper's Birthday (with some paperwork) because birthdays are fun and exciting and an excuse to eat cake (or Stinky Goodness).

Untitled
If I have any say about it, this is how I will spend my entire day -- laying on Dad's pillow snuggling with Mom. I can't think of much better than that.

Enjoy some Stinky Goodness today. I'll be having a Stinky Goodness cake tonight and will post some pictures.

My mom -- officially a "crazy cat lady"

So Mom knows a news anchor who does the more casual news broadcast -- Friends at Five. Mom had shared a collage of all four of us yesterday as part of National Cat Day, and the news was showing different cat pictures during the piece. Even though our picture wasn't shown, Mom's friend Darci called her by name and referred to her as a Crazy Cat Lady. So it's official -- the news lady said it. But she also said it was a compliment -- "She's crazy, she has cats, and she's a lady."

Cheating on us...

Mom had a visitor at work yesterday... a little kitten named Ruby.

Jeni and Ruby
Look at Mom here, cheating on us with little Ruby, their friend Samantha's new kitten.

Ruby helping Jeni at work
Ruby got to play on Mom's desk. We've never even been to Mom's office (of course, that would involve the car, and we don't want anything to do with that, but still...)

Ruby in the window
The window frame is very big, but Ruby is also very tiny. She liked this spot. I'm sure I would fit perfectly there (if not for the whole getting in the car thing...).

Ruby on Jeni's desk
Well she is pretty cute though. I guess I'm OK with her visiting Mom, but only at work. I'm not too sure about her visiting us at the house.

Finally July...

June was just a stupid crazy month for Mom and Dad. They just realized last night that Maggie never even got her birthday cake, so that's happening this weekend. They do have a good excuse, with Mom's work having to move before the wrecking ball shows up. Mom has worked pretty much every day for three months.

Jeni with the boy cats
Sometimes we just have to pin Mom down and force her to stop moving. Huggy Bear and I are very good at making Mom stay in bed. It really is a team effort.

Proper snoopervision

Jasper investigating the shrimp
Sometimes proper snoopervision is necessary. I may be 11 years old, but that doesn't mean I can't start doing new things. Lately, I've really enjoyed getting on the bar portion of the counter between the kitchen and living room and snoopervising Mom as she works in the kitchen. This is her favorite work spot, by the sink and stove where the big cutting board is. She doesn't seem to like it too much when I come over and try to sit on the cutting board (I can't figure out why). I can't remember what Mom was fixing here, but I'm pretty sure I didn't get to eat any of it. (Mom's making a funny face at me in this picture because I was staring at her.)

Mom time

Sometimes Mom and Dad get stressed out. Mom works for a non-profit, so you can image how it wears on her some days. I can't fix the things that stress them out, but I can do this:

Jeni and Jasper
And I think that's a pretty good thing to do.

Mom vs vishus deer

So Mom got back on her bicycle last night and dragged Dad around Fort Jackson for some exercise. With their schedules, night is really the only time they can ride, which works because Fort Jackson is pretty safe to ride on, and at night there are very few cars to get in the way. Well, last night Mom was riding (way ahead of Dad because he can't quite keep up -- he blames his bike). As Mom is riding, Dad can see a deer standing in the middle of the road. Mom kept riding, thinking the deer would scamper away. Well, Mom got nearly within 10 feet of the deer before the silly thing could make up it's mind what to do. It turned, hopped, and went running off across Mom's path. Mom said she thought it was going to run into her for a second, right before it went away.

Once, Dad had a deer run alongside him for a few seconds, but going the opposite direction, before jumping a fence and taking off. Always an adventure at the base.

This past weekend, Mom and Dad went to Knoxville for the Tennessee-Alabama football game (boo -- the bad Bama team won). But on the way home they drove through the Smoky Mountains. Mom hoped to see some bears, but no luck. But they did see a herd of elk in a field as they came out of the mountains in North Carolina. There was one male and nine females or babies. I'll try to get some pictures up to show you. They were territorial, but fortunately not vishus.

Are you serious?

I'm not kidding -- as soon as I get feeling better it seemed like Mom got sick! Total bummer, and such a very busy week for her at work. She's been laid up in bed and we've been taking good care of her. Everyone has been so good to send me all their purrs so I could get better, but if you could send some Mom's way too, that would be greatly appreciated. Thanks.

Tabby Tuesday

Maggie and Bejeweled Blitz
The other day Mom was playing Bejeweled Blitz. Usually when Mom is focused on a game Maggie will walk across the laptop. But not this day. Instead she decided to curl up against Mom and give her some good karma instead. I think Mom got a high score. (It should be noted that Maggie is also laying on the grocery list...)

Happy Birthday to Mom!

Mom's birthday was yesterday. She was supposed to take a half day, but there were things that she had to get handled at work, so she was out all day, then went to dinner, and didn't get home late. So we kittens will be celebrating her birthday with her this weekend by sleeping on her and forcing her to sleep in late tomorrow. Now that sounds like a plan!

Mom is a hero

Mom helped save a baby kitten yesterday. She was at work and she could hear the crying of a scared baby kitten. Mom could see it, hiding deep in the shrubs near a very busy intersection. Mom was worried to death about the kitten, but just couldn't quite get it. So she called Dad, and he contacted Midlands Kittens Rescue, a local feral cat fix and release group. They came over and when they got there the kitten was sleeping and could be reached. So they got the tee-tiny kitten (named Yip because he yipped the whole time in the car), and will get him to a vet and get him adopted to a good home. They're coming out tomorrow to try to get momma cat.

New furniture

We get a new TV cabinet delivered today, which means we'll hang out in the garage some when the strangers are here, and then we get to sniff something new, and put our stink on it! It also means that Mom will be home all afternoon with us!

Not happy at all

We're not happy at all, and let me show you why...

Cat visitor at Workshop
You see that -- dead center -- a cat coming to visit Mom while she was at the theatre yesterday. We have to stay home without our Mom, and this other cat gets to come and say HI and get Mom excited to have a visitor. Why can't we be the visitor, and hunt around the theatre for bugs (you know there's bound to be a bug or two) and explore all the cool high places? Come on, it has a CAT WALK -- for that reason alone we should be there.

Oh, and in yesterday's Wordless Wednesday, Maggie was sitting next to Huggy Bear, looking very cute on the step. But right before Dad took the picture she decided she'd rather go put her stink on Dad. So we just got the streak of Maggie's tail, and a confused Huggy Bear.

Mom still mending

Mom is still on the mend, but feeling much better since she is home with us and getting proper cat care. She's been taking pictures of us tending to her, and snuggling, and doing all the important things cats need to do to help moms heal, but she hasn't had the energy to upload them yet. Hopefully this weekend. Thanks again for all the concern and purrs.

Mom is home

Mom had an infection that was worse than she imagined, and ended up in the hospital for a few days, but thankfully she is home now. Thank you all for all of your healing purrs! She was so happy to know that the Cat Blogosphere was purring for her. It really helped lift her up. But thankfully she is home now and we'll be purring next to her while she rests. Thanks again for keeping her in your thoughts and prayers these last few days.

Mom is sick

Please purr for my Mom today. She is sick and feeling very bad, and she is very sad about being sick. But Aunt Tiffy is a nurse and is taking extra good care of her.

Thankful Thursday

Thank you all for your healing purrs ... Mom is feeling better and back at work today. She really wanted to play sick and stay home one more day, but she was feeling too good, and her new work computer was delivered while she was out. So she is very excited about getting a computer that is new and functional (and not a click, wait, go get a drink, wait some more, yea the program loaded computer).

Josie napping on the bed
Maggie wasn't the only one keeping Mom company in bed while she was feeling ill. Here's Josie cuddled up at the foot of the bed. I was on Dad's side of the bed and on his pillow and Huggy Bear was guarding the underneath of the bed so monsters can't move in there.

Mom Day

We are so so so so excited because Mom is staying home today. She was working as the interim administrator of the theatre she's involved with, and the last few weeks she's been training the new executive director and today she's letting him go on his own. Which is super good because we finally get to spend the whole day with Mom again! Can you say "snuggle time!"

Finally Friday

Maggie's makeshift tent
It's finally Friday, and I say take your lead from Little Miss Maggie and snuggle in wherever looks good to you.

We're very happy to say we bought a Daisy the Curly Cat fundraiser sculpture! Have you bought yours yet?

But we're also very sad for our friends Scooby, Shaggy and Scout's Mom, whose nephew's wife died suddenly following a seizure. Please send her some purrs.
