Tuxie Tuesday

daJosie on red
Doesn't Josie look good against the red of the kitchen walls? She was being very silly last night. Mom, Dad and Aunt Tiff went for a walk with Maggie again, and when they got back Josie was all over Dad looking for love, then she got behind Mom on the couch and almost got sat on. I don't know what got into her, but she was being a nut! That's usually Maggie's job. Sisters -- that's all I can say.

We're purring for Sweet Praline today. I know she's having surgery, and I'm sure her Mom is very nervous. But I'm also confident that Praline will do well -- she's a trooper!

Josie's extreme closeup
Josie says she doesn't get enough "face time" on the blog anymore. I hope this makes her happy.

Tuxie Tuesday

Mom and Dad picked up some new chairs for the parlor the other day. It was during the one snowfall we've had in Columbia in the past five years.

Josie likes the new chairs
Josie approves of the new chairs. She thinks this would be a great place to curl up with a good book (or with Mom while she reads a good book). I tried the chairs out, too, but this is a Tuxie post and I'll save my picture for tomorrow.

As for the comments issue, it looks like I'll be switching over to Blogger's comments soon and dropping the old Haloscan. Like Max and Abby said, why pay for something that we can get free. Especially when the paid product doesn't look all that great. It's definitely more complicated. I made a comment on my own blog, logged in and everything, and it showed me as Guest. What the fluff? I must have deleted the email telling how to back up my old comments, but I'll set Dad on the task of doing that. Thanks for your patients during the transition.

Tuxie Tabby Tuesday

This is truly a two-fer today ... and possibly the only time you'll ever see this: Maggie and Josie curled up together napping. Usually when Maggie joins Josie there is some butt-biting and hissing and Josie huffs off and Maggie claims Josie's spot. But not this day. No, instead Maggie curled up right with Josie, and even took the same pose as her. Maybe 2010 will turn over a new leaf for the sisters.

Tuxie Tuesday

Josie on her new box
Josie really loved the new big box Mom and Dad brought into the house last week. Unfortunately, the box is gone already. It did last a few days, though, and was a great napping spot.

Tuxie Tabby Tuesday

We've had such nice weather that it's been difficult to get in the Christmas spirit. But Mom and Dad managed to put the trees up anyway (with our help).

Maggie in the side window
But this is what the weather has been like -- windows open and cats on patrol.

Josie spots something
We've taken to just staring out the window to make Mom and Dad wonder what's out back. We've studied the leaves and squirrels and invading neighbor cats. But usually, just for fun, there's nothing out there at all. It keeps Mom and Dad on their toes.

Tuxie Tuesday

Josie has always been the most watchful cat of the four of us.

Josie watching Dean out back
The other day Dad was out getting some pictures of some of the plants that were still doing well. Josie kept an eye on him, just in case she had to alert Mom or something. You can never be too careful.

Tuxie Tuesday

Moochie and Zak
These are the neighbor's cats, Moochie and Zak. Remember back in the Spring when we almost had a new brother? That would be Zak in the background. It worked out really well that they moved down the street. Zak and Moochie have turned into nice brothers and like to snuggle together and play together. I'm glad these two big boys are down the street and not down the hall, even if they are cute.

Tuxie Tuesday: Josie versus the squirrel

OK, it wasn't only Josie who noticed the squirrel, but she was certainly first and the most animated about it.

Josie is mad at that squirrel
As soon as Josie saw the squirrel on the deck out back she stood up on the back of the couch and started pawing at the window frame, just itching to get out and chase the squirrel.

Huggy Bear, Maggie and Josie watching a squirrel on the deck
We all got very excited and rushed over to see what the commotion was -- well, all but me. I was just hanging out in the kitchen hoping for some chicken. (You see, I know we're indoor cats, and there's no use getting overly excited about an outside thing -- especially when the windows are closed.)

The squirrel
But this is what all the fuss was about. And even with Josie attacking the window and huffing and generally being upset that he was there, this little guy still hung out, scratching himself furiously, for a good minute or two before disappearing high into a tree.

Josie's nip lick
As a reward, Dad got us some fresh nip from the pot out back. Mom and Dad get nip every year to grow, but this is the first time it has made it past the July heat.

This nip is nose licking good
It was some good nip, too. HB ate his, Maggie and Josie tussled over some more. As Josie shows here, it was nose-licking good!

Tabby Tuxie Tuesday

How about a two-fer on Tuesday (Two's-day?) ... It's been so stinkin' hot here that there's little to do other than just nap. OK, the heat is just another excuse to nap, but it's still hot. The heat index was 111 yesterday. I'm not sure what that means, but Dad said it meant it was way to hot for even a minute of garage time.

Two sister hanging out together
You know it's too hot when the sisters are just hanging out together, not wrestling or chasing or even hissing. They really do love each other ... Josie just usually expresses it with hisses and Maggie with bites on the butt.

Tuxie Tuesday

Mom and Dad are fussing because we haven't had much rain and the grass isn't real green, but we've been enjoying the sunny spots we've been having.

Josie in the sun
Josie has a schedule now ... she starts on the front side of the house for the morning sun, then works her way to the back side for the evening sun. That way she's constantly in a sunny spot. It keeps her pretty busy.

[And speaking of pretty busy, I have been very lax about visiting my friends lately, and hate using the "busy" excuse. I know we all go through these phases, but I want to let you all know that I'm going to be better about visiting and commenting. Thanks...]

Tuxie Tuesday

This is a great time of year with so much to look at outside. Josie likes to hang out in the window behind the couch and watch out back.

Josie and Josie
Here's Josie hanging out with ... well, Josie. I think she was hoping to see a squirrel. Maggie and I have been hanging out in the front parlor because there's another bird's nest in the fern and the birds are getting ready to hatch! We hope to get some baby bird pictures later.

Tuxie Tuesday

Mom ordered us a Chum from the Sock Drawer Shelter on Etsy and it came in the mail the other day. Our Chum is Hug'um and she is very sweet.

Josie with Hug'um from Sock Drawer Shelter
Josie has taken a particular liking to Hug'um and is using her as Josie's own special pillow. Mom and Dad keep finding her resting her head on this tiny sock creation. I'm pretty sure Josie has a new favorite plaything.

I hope everyone had a nice Memorial Day weekend. Mom and Dad went to the Riverbanks Zoo Monday and I hope to share some pictures this week.

Tuxie Tuesday

Josie and Huggy napping
This has recently become one of Josie's favorite napping spots, especially this time of day as the afternoon sun comes through. It used to be Huggy Bear's spot, but, as you can see, he has very nicely given it up to his sister. He's content just to be near it.

Tuxie Tuesday

Thank goodness for nice Spring days. We've been enjoying more sunshine, sharing some open windows, and watching out back for sassy squirrels. Josie really entertained Aunt Tiff the other day when Bella, the cat from two houses down, was on our back deck, and a squirrel was on the fence -- at the same time. Josie was running along the back of the couch, then to the back door, just huffing mad. As mild and sweet as she is, she really is the defender of the house.

This is Josie by the back door -- it's one of her favorite spots to sit and watch.

Tuxie Tabby Tuesday

I have a few rare Josie and Maggie pictures. Josie is very sweet, but she isn't always very tolerant of Maggie. Josie and Maggie just have different ideas about what "fun" is. The other day Dad helped Josie to the top of the fridge and Josie went up on the cabinets. Well, Maggie likes to go up there and wrestle with us and Josie was a little pinned down, so Dad rescued her back to the top of the fridge. Then Maggie came and joined her and all was OK.

Josie and Maggie on top of the fridge
Here the girls are hanging out together on top of the fridge.

Maggie and Josie on the box
A few days later we had a big box to explore and they were on it together again. I guess having a common spot to explore can get you through some rough patches.

Tuxie Tuesday

Josie was really fired up this weekend, rushing around patrolling the windows.

Josie on squirrel patrol
There's definitely something out there, but it's hard to see in this picture.

Sassy squirrel
Of course! It's that sassy squirrel again. He is a big tease, flicking his tail on the wrong side of the window. One of these days...

Tuxie Tuesday

Josie wants to take a bite out of the plant
Must. Eat. Plant.

[OK, she didn't eat the plant, but she was sizing it up... We're still taking name suggestions for our friend's kitten formerly named Guido who was a he but is really a she. We'll probably wrap it up tomorrow or Thursday. Thanks for all the great suggestions so far.]
