Empty nest syndrome

Well, Mom and Dad went to check on the little baby birds that were up in the hanging fern and this is what they saw:

Empty nest
The nest was empty! I guess those little birds decided it was time to take off and explore. I hope they're doing OK and not playing with the wrong sort of cat.

They grow fast, don't they? A couple of years ago, in May/June, we had a house finch nest in a hanging basket outside our front door. The babies hatched and flew the coop in very short order!

I have a few nests in the trees that line the driveway but I've never been able to see the little ones.

Wow, we never see baby birds or even nests (except for the teeny hummingbird nest the wind blew out of a tree, luckily not in use). We just see the occasional egg shell bit and then just regular-size birds.

My mom wants to thank your mom for the encouragement about her back situation. She did get the shot (about 90% successful) but would love to know about other treatments if your dad can recommend some.

All the baby birds in the nests in our big oak tree are out now and they sit on the branches making a racket waiting for food. They make our teefs chatter.

We hope that the birds enjoyed their time in your territory and that maybe one of them will come back again next year.

They don't hang around too long, do they?

Aw, and they didn't even say goodbye...
