The truth is in the pupils

I had to go back to the vet again for a check-up -- hopefully the last one for a long time.

There was a talkative Corgi at the vet's right beside me. Let's just say I wasn't liking that dog very much today. Pupils don't lie. I was done. I had to huff at him several times.

And then the vet said he wants me to lose half a pound a month. I'm not sure how that's supposed to happen. Dad said something about putting the food away for part of the day. We'll see. I don't want diabetes either, so I'll do my best.

On the plus side, I'm getting better. But I'm done with these adventures. I'm ready to nap in my box in peace again.

Back from the vet

I'm home from the vet. No cone, thankfully. The shaved hind quarters is humiliating enough. I am isolated in the master bathroom while I drain and heal. It'll keep me (and the house) clean, and allow Mom and Dad to monitor me. It'll also keep my sister from biting me again. I don't like being stuck in the bathroom. I keep trying to turn the doorknob, but I don't have thumbs. Dad has been brushing me and giving me extra treats. This is the first abscess that Mom and Dad have had to deal with from us. Mom's old cat Fluffy used to get him, but he was an indoor/outdoor cat, so he'd get in fights. But then after it was drained he'd just go outside to ooze. I get to ooze in the bathroom -- much less fun.

Thanks for the purrs. It really makes me feel better.

At the emergency vet

UPDATE: Apparently I have a ruptured abscess on my hind leg. The vet said she just needs to clean it up. I blame Maggie -- she's a rough-houser and a butt biter. But the vet said I was being good. That's before she really started messing with me. She's hearing me fuss now!

---

Please send me some purrs. I'm at the emergency pet clinic. I had some spotting in Mom and Dad's bathroom where the food bowl is -- almost like I was having bloody stool -- and it really stinks. Dad tried to clean me like I had messed myself but I cried like it hurt (as opposed to me being mad). My mood was fine though, until they put me in the carrier and then in the car. I talked the whole ride over (fortunately a short one). So now I'm with the vet lady. Ugh! I'll update soon. Thanks for the purrs.

Ticked-off Tuxie

More eye issues for Josie means she's one ticked-off tuxie. Mom took her to the vet for her follow-up appointment. They were going to "squeeze her in" at 2:00, but it was almost 3:45 before the V-E-T made it into the room to see her. The V-E-T she saw last week was tied up in surgery and the other who ended up seeing Josie was in the next room with four dogs -- dogs who barked at Josie and made her very uneasy.

Now they suspect that she had an old Herpes infection in her eye that has been aggravated by the abrasion to her eye. Mom explained that there are different types of Herpes viruses, and this is not the kind you get from kissing disreputable boys. The V-E-T is calling in an order for another eye ointment. Oh Josie was mad. Mad mad mad. And she told Mom all about it on the way home, and more once they got home. She wasn't necessarily mad at Mom, just mad at the situation (and the V-E-T).

Also, Josie's mats and dry skin may be a result of the indoor cat formula we have been eating, so we may all be upgrading our food, too. Fortunately, and coincidentally, Sweet Praline's Mom brought in some treats and food samples that Praline is not at all interested in, so we have some stuff to try.

Josie's left eye about 80 percent better
And just to spite the V-E-T, Josie's eye is looking better tonight, about 80 percent improved, although slightly squinty. Hopefully with things settling down we'll be able to visit more today. I was, sadly, absent from the blogosphere yesterday, and with all the stress of Josie and Mom and the V-E-T we really needed the calm of visiting you guys.

Tuxie Tuesday

Josie's hurt eye

We think Josie and Maggie got into a tussle and Josie's little eye got scratched. We have put some meds in it, but she is going to the V-E-T today. We know that Maggie feels bad because they were only playing and Maggie keeps trying to give Josie a bath to make up with her.

Please send Josie purrs that her little eye is ok. Mom and dad are worried sick (because we all know about Maggie and her little eye.)

UPDATE: Josie did have a corneal abrasion. So the doctor gave her some eye ointment. Josie was a perfect girl at the VET's office, even the VET said so. The only time she gave mom the business was when they violated her bottom. (She scratched mom's tummy to try and get down.) She didn't hiss or cry or bite or tinkle or anything. She's such a good girl!

Here's Josie talking to mom in the car on the way to the VET.

Here's Josie inspecting the examine room to make sure it was up to her standards.

Here she is on her way home with a little smile on her face because she got a new purple mousie for being such a good girl.
