Story People: Caregiver

This is very funny and very true -- it's called Caregiver from the Story People. If you're not familiar with them check out their website.
"What happened to you? I said & she said she was nurturing the cat against its will & that was the end of that conversation."

Baby birds

We have some baby birds hanging out in the hanging fern on the front porch. It is a very smart place for the birds to be -- covered, safe, sheltered.

Birds in the hanging fern
I don't think the birds were too happy about having their picture taken, but they are very cute. We'll check in later and see how they're doing. Mom and Dad won't let us go play with them, though.

Mom's Theatre

Ok...As many of you know, the budgets for many Arts organizations are being cut. This is really hitting home here in South Carolina. My mom works for a local community theatre and Chase Community Giving is giving 5 million dollars to 200 charities. So I would like to ask you all to help out by voting for her theatre, Workshop Theatre of SC.

From the bottom of our hearts -- thanks!

Happy 5th Birthday, Maggie!

Maggie's birthday was on Thursday. She got a bunch of nice Happy 5th Birthday wishes on Thursday. Maggie shares her birthday with Mom, which is really cool, but Mom wasn't feeling too hot on her birthday so we decided to actually have her party on Saturday.

Maggie got a stinky goodness cake in the shape of a 5.

She got the first bite, then we all shared.

Mom got a neat cooler from Aunt Tiff that looks like a fishing bobber, and the best part is that it came in a really great box. Dad tried to get a picture of Maggie in the box, but she decided to rush the camera instead.

Thanks again for all of Maggie's nice birthday wishes. Y'all are the best!

Happy Birthday to Mom!

Mom's birthday was yesterday. She was supposed to take a half day, but there were things that she had to get handled at work, so she was out all day, then went to dinner, and didn't get home late. So we kittens will be celebrating her birthday with her this weekend by sleeping on her and forcing her to sleep in late tomorrow. Now that sounds like a plan!

Cat age chart

Freekibblekat got me interested so I did a search for an age conversion chart to find our equivalent to our human's ages. Pretty interesting. I'm suddenly older than my beans.

Funny story

Since I still need to upload some pictures, and Mom and Dad have been busy getting back into a routine after their trip, I will share a funny story instead.

Mom works with this man who has a dog. Mary Gertrude is two parts of different kinds of terrier so she is very cute, fast and a jumper. Well Randy, her dad, has a mail slot in his front door. Mary Gertrude hates the mailman, and the mail even more. When the mail is delivered Mary Gertrude will attack the mail, and shred it as much as possible. To solve this issue, Randy mounted a basket to the door to catch the mail and keep it away from Mary Gertrude. This worked for a while, but she was determined. Now, when she hears the mailman coming, she runs to the door, and as the mail is passed through the slot, she will jump and grab it before it reaches the basket, and shred the mail. Randy now gets his bills digitally...

Mom and Dad are home!

Mom and Dad went to the beach for a few days, and shut the computer down when they left, which is why I haven't been able to update or visit. I've never been to the beach, but I hear it's like a giant litter box right beside a seafood store. That sounds pretty good to me!

Jasper as a kitten

jasper in a bowl
This is me as a kitten. I used to love curling up in bowls. Now I use the sink instead. Dad was supposed to be uploading some new pictures, but then I curled up in front of the keyboard, made him rub my belly and purred real loud so we're going with a cute kitten picture instead. He can upload those other pictures later. (They were of the siblings anyway...)

Rescued kitten

Workshop kitten
Mom was able to snap a picture of the kitten that was rescued the other day. This was before she could actually get to the kitten to grab him. He was asleep when they got him, which was why they could. When he was awake, he'd move further back into the bush, hiss and whap the ground with his tiny paws. Curled up, he fit in the palm of Mom's hand. They named him Yip because he yipped all the way home with Samantha from the rescue group. He went to the vet yesterday and will hopefully have a home soon.

Mom is a hero

Mom helped save a baby kitten yesterday. She was at work and she could hear the crying of a scared baby kitten. Mom could see it, hiding deep in the shrubs near a very busy intersection. Mom was worried to death about the kitten, but just couldn't quite get it. So she called Dad, and he contacted Midlands Kittens Rescue, a local feral cat fix and release group. They came over and when they got there the kitten was sleeping and could be reached. So they got the tee-tiny kitten (named Yip because he yipped the whole time in the car), and will get him to a vet and get him adopted to a good home. They're coming out tomorrow to try to get momma cat.

A very tempting lizard

Lizard on the lily
We stay inside, and for this lizard's sake, it's probably a good thing, too. Doesn't this guy look like he'd be fun to chase?

Lizard on the lily
I mean, really, look at him. He's quick, hiding in the lilies. That just says fun. I'm afraid that Josie would destroy all the plants to get this guy. She's all hunter when the opportunity presents itself.
