Should he stay or should he go?

In discussing moving Midnight, Max brings to light a good point, and one that has been weighing on Dad, too. Since Midnight is so familiar with the territory where he is, and he'll only be a few miles from there once he moves, will he try to go back to his usual turf? It's a fear that Dad has that Midnight will try and either get lost or hurt. Other neighbors do feed him and care for him also, so he won't be left uncared for. Is it selfish of us to move him, even though we have his best interests at heart?
